- Fraser's Letter to Santa
By Alison Hirst
Dear Father Christmas,
I hope all's well with you,
I've decided this year, to request a favour or two.
I Know I don't write often, but I do have a reason,
And I thought now was a good time, because of the season.
Since my last contact, I am fully grown,
And I've improved on my spelling, as I've hopefully shown.
From a child to an adult, I've been continually good,
Apart from one moment, I've done all that I should.
I know there is magic in this world, all around,
And my belief in the power of love is profound.
Though Ray gives me knowing looks and tries to be kind,
Still visions of Victoria, dance in my mind.
So please Mr.Claus, this chance I can't miss,
To ask you to send me one little kiss.
As your Christmas Eve Quest, begins to take flight,
Take message to my lost love, into the night.
Whisper I love you, and always will,
But my heart begs for it's freedom, from this bitter pill.
As you fly over her chimney, with your reindeer team.
Sprinkle your magic, into her night's dream.
Then as you work's over, and homeward you fly,
I pray, please tell my heart, that's it's now said goodbye...
Forever.
Thank You Kindly,
Benton Fraser,
RCMP
- Ray's Letter to Santa
By Alison Hirst
Well, hello Father Christmas! Have you had a good year?
Is your wife keeping well? Are your elves in good cheer?
Now my list's kinda long, but I'm Italian you see,
And there are some things that need sorting, for my family.
First of all there's my sister, Francesca's her name,
And in my butt (excuse my French), she's a proverbial pain!
She lusts after my best friend, the Mountie - you know?
So I thought just a brief kiss, under the mistletoe?
(Peace and quiet for five whole seconds...ahh bliss).
Then there's my Ma, who worries alot,
If I am out on a stakeout, or if my soup is too hot.
She's a real sweetheart, so lets cut the core,
Send her all that she wishes for, then add a bit more(From me).
Oh yeah then there's Benny, world's most infuriating man,
He's also my best friend, so I do all that I can.
Could you help him relax more? Make him laugh for a start!
And take all memories of Victoria, right out of his heart.
And what would I like? Well what do I say?
Some new Armani jackets? Or a rise in my pay?
My phone number appearing in gorgeous girls' books,
Once they call they will fall for my charm and good looks!!
But seriously Santa' my real wish is clear,
What I want most, A Merry Christmas,
And a Peaceful New Year!
Love from,
Detective Ray Vecchio C.P.D.
- Ali's Christmas Wish
By Alison Hirst
Dear Father Christmas,
There's a pain in my heart,
And, alas the festive season, has got a bad start.
For though I love presents and the cards I receive,
There's one thing l wish for, that even you can't retrieve.
I wanted Due South back, the show I adore,
And Alliance affirmed, that they would give me more.
I cheered and I shouted, all the street heard my cries,
A whole brand new series with my two favourite guys.
But not for long jubilation, something was wrong,
And then I found out that my Ray would be gone.
How could they do this? What's in their mind?
Are they completely mad? Are they totally blind?
Ray needs Benny and Benny needs Ray,
About the joy of Due South there is no more to say.
So next year there's a series that they'll put on the air,
But the essence of Due South will not be there.
So you see Santa Claus why my letter's so sad,
And what can be done, so I don't feel so bad?
For I feel Ray Vecchio is lost, gone deep underground,
And in my heart I don't think he will ever be found.
So this Christmas I wish, to make the hurt go away,
The memories of two seasons always to stay,
Alive and flourishing, through fans sane or barmy,
Safe in the grasp of Detective Armani!!
Love from,
Ali.
- If Only For One Day
By Alison Hirst
Dear Father Christmas,
I have one wish this Christmas, though it's really rather strange
I am hoping you're the person, with whom my wish I can arrange.
I'd love to be like my best friend, but only for one day,
To have his ease and flair and style, and to know first what to say
(To absolutely anyone!).
I'd like to have a cellular phone, and lots of friends to ring,
I'd even like loud shirts and ties' then I could do well anything!
To have his style with ladies, is something I'd like to try,
They always leave me tongue tied, I never quite know why!
To try some reckless driving too, sounds like it could be fun,
But it would have to be on a quiet road, so I don't hurt anyone.
Recklessness has its place and though I know it's just a show,
I couldn't put anyone in danger - I'm a Mountie, don't you know!
There is one more thing that Ray has, that I'd like
A great big house of family, like I have hardly known.
Christmas trees and egg nog, songs and turkey roast,
Exchanging gifts and sharing love, round a fire, warm as toast.
So for just one single Christmas Day, may I have my share of joy,
And spend my time with a real family, like I did as a tiny boy.
Yours wishfully,
Benton Fraser R.C.M.P
- Dear Santa Claus,
I must be brief, 'cos I've got lots to do,
And Lieutenant Welsh would throw a fit, if he saw me writing you!
I've an unusual request this year, one I bet you've never heard,
It probably gets a ranking in your file marked 'quite absurd'
If, when you are giving out magic on your special Christmas flight,
You happen to pass over my house, please think about my plight
I would like to be like my best friend if only for one day,
He is strong and brave honest be always finds his way.
He believes the best in others, in people he will trust,
And his principals - though annoying - are good and fair and just.
He always looks so darned smart too, whether dressed in brown or red,
He never looks tussled or tired or worn, like he's just got out of bed.
(Hoe does he do that?)
I'd like for once to really believe, that justice will prevail,
That all my efforts to do what's right, are not ultimately bound to fail.
OH, and I'd love some peace and quiet too, without my family.
A day in hushed solitude, sounds like bliss to me.
Finally I'd love for the ladies to look at me, as they do at Benny,
For though I've had my moments in life, there haven't been that many!
So there you have it, Santa, the dream that's crossed my mind,
So I'll leave it to you on Christmas morn, and then see what I do find.
Have A Great Trip!
Ray.
- BONDS OF FRIENDSHIP
By Catherine Phipps.
Friendship is knowing you'll be there,
through thick and thin, weak and strong.
When all the others had fallen,
you were there to help me along -
Through fumbling blindness, lost love,
at death's cold, dark door,
I found you waiting for me,
to pick me up once more.
You led me through the wilderness,
of pain, doubt and fear,
and though I've hurt you many times,
still I find you standing near.
Through pointless conflict, lack of sight,
I never doubted you,
and when each fight seemed like the last,
we fought to see it through.
I'd lay down my life for you,
I'd give myself away,
if it could mean you'd stand here with me
to fight another day.
- ODE TO RAY
By Elizabeth Lunney
Ray, we've grown to love you,
We need you on the show,
Don't leave! We'd surely miss you,
Please, please don't go!
Your streetwise moves and sparkling style,
Would be missed by us forever,
And most of all your cheeky grin,
DON'T LEAVE US, RAY, DON'T EVER!
- BENTON'S PSALM
By Jenny Gleave.
The Law is my Shepherd,
I shall not want (although a little recognition...)
It maketh me lie down in almost green pastures,
It leadeth me beside still waters (in fact so still that in Chicago,
you can walk on them.)
It restoreth my hats (and spends thousands of dollars in the process,)
It guideth me in paths of righteousness, almost certainly leading
to death and destruction,
And, yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of signs
oddly connected to Toronto,
I fear no evil,
For Ray is with me,
His handcuffs and gun, they comfort me (although his occasional idiotic
ideas and reservations about my police work can get annoying.)
Thou prepareth a table before me (with all my favourite things; mud,
sneakers and nail clippings - yum!)
In the presence of mine enemies (and may I take this moment to request
a larger table - we're running out of room!)
Elaine annointeth my head with oil (and after the number of times
Ray has shot me, we're running out of that too,)
Surely goodness and mercy (or Frannie at least) will follow me,
All the days of my life,
And I shall dwell in the house of the Law forever.
- Detective Armani
by Moira Reynols and Denise Baker.
Ray's the detective with the real cool suit,
Stop when he says or he's likely to shoot,
He carries a badge, gun and shades,
From all of his efforts he never gets praised.
He works with a Mountie from the land of snow,
Who brought his deaf wolf to the wilds of Chicago.
A city filled with crime and hoods,
It disqusts Ray when Benny eats mud.
Detective Armani is on the case,
Criminals watch out or Ray'll give chase,
He'll leap right to the live of his life,
I mean his Riviera, not a wife!
His ma is protective, his sister's a flirt,
She goes after anything that's not wearing a skirt,
Benny's his partner, a friend there's no doubt,
Whenever there's trouble, he's always about.
Loyal and trustworthy, on that you can depend,
For Detective Armani is a true and loyal friend,
His attitude could do with a little work,
Then Lieutenant Welsh wouldn't go berserk.
Got bless you, Ray, for the work you do,
27th Precinct couldn't do without you,
You won't find better on the Force,
So saddle up Mountie and get back on your horse!
- What is Victoria's Secret?
By Janet Wright.
'What is Victoria's secret?' we cry,
'I'm sure I don't know,' says Ben with a sigh,
'I thought she was loving, romantic and kind.'
Dief may be deaf but now Ben is blind.
'Way to go, Benny,' It's long overdue,
(If Ben's so naive, how's he know what to do?)
Then it's all going wrong - Ray suspects that she's bad,
'Ya hurt him, I'll kill ya,' I wish that he had.
But no, on she bulldozes, right through Ben's heart,
Framing him, shooting Dief and that's just the start!
Ray's on suspension but Ben loves her still,
(Oh, somebody hit him! If you don't, I will!)
'She's not coming back to you,' Why can't son see?
'I need her,' he sobs. (Well he could have me!)
Ray's in more trouble. Must find that key.
Turned his house upside down, where can it be?
'Blimey,' I'm thinking, 'What'll Ray's ma say?'
Looks like my son's bedroom - on a good day.
And so ever onward. More torture to bear,
How could she do it? It just isn't fair!
She's almost destroyed him, that much is plain,
Yet still he pursues as she leaves on that train.
I'm close to exhaustion, can't stand much more,
But all is not over! More horror in store!
Ben's falling backwards! Look if you dare,
Ray, get your eyes fixed - you should have shot her!
She's used and abused him and left him for dead,
Made a great story though, has to be said.
Ray's face fills with terror - he runs to Ben's side,
He loves his friend dearly, that can't be denied.
Ben recites poetry, is this the end?
No more adventures for Mountie and friend?
She's done this to us, that cold hearted witch,
Victoria's secret is that she's a bitch!
- Poem
by Sarah Parr
Fraser is a Canadian Mountie,
Who is kind and awfully sweet.
Victoria was the love of his life,
He even thought she could be his wife.
But then she did something bad,
And went away so Fraser was sad.
Ray is his partner,
Who is tough and hard,
They go around Chicago,
Putting people behind bars.
They make a really good team,
And they are always in my dreams.
- SONNET TO A HANDSOME MAN
By Margaret.
Oh, when I look down deep into your eyes,
I feel I'm drowning in a bottomless lake.
I see into your soul and hear your sighs;
Your heart beats time with mine each day I wake.
You look so innocent in ev'ry way,
So handsome in your uniform red;
Your smile lights up the sky like a summer's day;
Your gen'rous mouth, your loving hands outspread.
I grant, sweet love, you live a life of good,
Your days are filled with kind and worthy deeds.
My dreams at night all form, as e'en they could,
A pilgrimage to you none can impede.
Alas, you're but a fictional man divine,
I ne'er can touch your life as you've touched mine.
- THE MOUNTIE IN RED
By Antoinette Robinson.
Benton Fraser is his name,
A Canadian Mountie his claim to fame,
As Mounties go, there is no finer,
They do their training in Regina.
The Mountie's motto, 'Maintain the Right,'
His father's ghost a guiding light,
He lends a hand as much as he can,
Always telling his son, 'Go get your man.'
Fraser senior shot down in his prime,
A Mountie legend in his own lifetime.
Stetson, lanyard, lots of red serge,
To go back to the Frozen North Ben's only urge.
Chicago's his home now, him and Dief,
With Ray as his partner, what a relief!
Ray has a yen for Armani suits,
Ben wears his dress reds and brown leather boots,
As cops go, you won't find no better,
Upholding the law, to the letter.
They love to argue, bicker and fight,
Ben as always, must get it just right,
Ray's one-liners come out at full pelt,
He tells Benny, 'That's not hair, Fraser, that's a pelt.'
Lieutenant Welsh thinks Ben has no life,
What he needs is a lovely wife,
Francesca has tried once or twice,
Ray had a hunch that Victoria wasn't nice,
She broke Ben's heart and brought both of them down,
All Ray can do is sit and frown,
But cheer up Benny you'll soon be back in your stride,
With your trusty partner Ray, always at your side.
- Why Do I Love Thee?
By Janet Wright
Ahem here goes....
Why do I love thee, tall Mountie in red?
Is it just the greatest sex when I take you to bed?
Or maybe your manner, so cute and polite,
Sigh...Who wouldn't love such a shining knight?
The way you protect when bad guys abound,
Your revolting, er sweet habit of tasting the ground,
The smile, The wolf? No, I've go it by Gad!
It's 'cos you wear your long-johns and braces, just like my dad!
The end-mercifully!
- Why Do I Love Thee Too?
By Janet Wright
Why do I love the, brash Ray Vecchio?
With your hard-man image and wise-cracking show,
Your arrogant manner? That way your law bends?
Or maybe your penchant for shooting your friends!
The sweet patience that never prevails,
With Ben and his wolf and his Inuit tales?
Well, no Ray, you lie, you're a softie inside.
So please break down my door-no warrant required!
(PS and bring the handcuffs!!)
- Benton Fraser
By Pat Ball
Benton Fraser, where are you?
I've been here since half past two.
You said that you would not be late,
For this is our very first date.
But here I stand all alone,
I think I may just go back home.
Just a minute, what was that?
Don't I recognize that hat?
Here you are in front of me,
The time is now a quarter past three,
Apologizing with all your heart,
You suggest a walk in the park.
You take my hand and kiss my lips,
Butterflies in my tummy and my heart flips.
You smile and all my anger evaporates,
I hope this is the first of many dates.
- Changing Winds
By Sharon Elton
Lyric poem inspired by Due South. The song can be sung to the
tune of 'Possession' by Sarah McLachlan.
My home is in a cabin in an icy glacier land.
I have no other life, but on the other hand,
Things are changing now. I fear my life is not my own.
And I may have no other choice to leave the home I've known.
And I can feel the wind that blows for,
It is so cold.
I'll make you see it through,
Remember me, after all these years,
Just hold my hand, dear.
I know I saw the dogsled from a long long way away.
Zipping down the icy slopes, a turn, a sway.
All I have is Canadian, all I have is red.
All I have is all I want, that is what I said.
- The Windhover
This is the poem Benny recited on the railway platform at the end
of 'Victoria's Secret' and the one Victoria repeated over and over
in the snow storm, See DA brings you culture too!
To Christ Our Lord.
I caught this morning morning's minion, kingdom
Of daylight's dauphin, dapple-dawn-drawn Falcon, in his riding
Of the rolling level underneath him steady air, and striding
High there, how he rung upon the rein of a wimpling wing
In his ecstacy! Then off, off forth on swing,
As a skate's smooth on a bow-head: the hurl and gliding
Rebuffed the big wind. My heart in hiding
Stirred for a bird - the achieve of the mastery of the thing!
Brute beauty and valour and act, oh air, pride, plume here
Buckle! And the fire that breaks from thee then, a billion
Times told lovelier, more dangerous, O my chevalier!
No wonder of it: sheer plod makes plough down sillion
Shine, and blue-break embers, ah my dear,
Fall, gall themselves, and gash gold vermillion.
- Ode to Louie
Louie was a good guy,
A cop on the beat,
Not a bad detective,
A promising career at his feet.
Trouble sort of found him,
Huey always said,
And when that bomb exploded,
Poor Louie wound up dead.
His friends mourn his passing,
His soul wanders free,
Though his presence will be missed,
He lives on in their memory.
- The Fake Mountie
By Jeanette Luker
Fraser popped round my house today.
After having quite a nice kip,
He wore the most beautiful costume,
But wait, I spot a rip!
I showed him to the sewing room,
I helped him sew it up,
Somehow I don't think it was enough,
As he threw and smashed his cup!
It was then that I noticed his boots,
All scuffed and brown.
It this the Mountie who wears the crown?
Was he a fake? Was he not real?
There was something he'd lost-his appeal!
Who was this man, surely not Paul?
Looking at him, he wasn't as tall,
He kicked my cat,
I nicked his hat.
He slammed the front door,
He could take it no more.
It was not my fault after all.
It was his, he'd lost his cool?
- Welsh's Domain
By Louisa de Souza
They're changing sidekicks in Welsh's domain,
Diefenbaker went down with Elaine,
Losing that cop has hit them hard,
"Is a relationship with Stan on the cards?"
says Elaine.
They're changing sidekicks in Welsh's domain,
Diefenbaker went down with Elaine,
It was funny enough having Huey and Louie,
"To make it the hat-trick, they're given us Dewey,"
says Elaine.
They're changing sidekicks in Welsh's domain,
Diefenbaker went down with Elaine,
I know the place won't be the same,
"Still got Big Red so I can't complain,"
says Elaine.
They're changing sidekicks in Welsh's domain,
Diefenbaker went down with Elaine,
What will happen in season three?
"Just sit back and wait and see,"
says Elaine.
- The Station
By Catherine Worth
Nobody can beat the handsome Canadian,
With the furry hound at his side,
The one with the side-kick, I mean!
He came across the border and that's where they met.
She said, 'I thought it was you,
Standing in the middle of the road'
She's the one who left him broken-hearted,
Ten year's ago, and now thinks she can,
Just come back into his life just like that.
That's what lead to the scene at the station,
He didn't know what to do!
He looked at Ray and decided to run!
Who knows what was going on inside his head.
As Ben reached for her hand,
Ray said, 'She's got a gun!'
Then the sweet Canadian grabbed her hand,
And Ray fired his gun.
Down fell Benny and Victoria looked on.
Ray was horrified at what he had done!
He ran to Benny as Victoria left then behind,
And as Ray knelt at Benny's side,
Benny whispered, 'I should be with her!'
- THE BALLAD of BENTON AND GERRARD, RCMP
BY Sharon Elton
High up on the mountain,
I saw a figure fall,
Someone shot a Mountie,
The one who stood so tall.
We all were at the funeral,
His son at the front
He vowed he'd find the scoundrel,
Who'd gone ahead and done it
Benton vowed his father,
Would see his murder avenged,
And so off to Chicago.
He went with nerves on edge.
Gerard was at the funeral,
Hiss teeth were all a grind,
For he was the scoundrel,
The truth Benton must not find!
But now the truth is nearer
The hitman has been
But he's alerted Gerard,
And the hunt's gone underground
Benton and Ray Vecchio,
(The friend he has just made)
0nce now are hunted,
And so should be afraid.
The hitman now is captured
And Gerard is on hand,
And so he shoots the hitman,
Benton cannot understand!
But Benny isn't stupid
And he surely knows the score
The hitman dies or testifies,
This is criminal law.
Gerard, murderer that he is,
Is after Benny's blood,
The hitman's dead, when all is said
And guess who pulled the trigger?
Back up the mountain,
The chase on again,
Ray is visiting Benny,
When seven men burst in.
They dive for cover as the shots ring out,
Then get chased down a mountain,
But the clever two know what to do,
And dodge and swerve to stop them.
The last one left flies to his death
Over the edge of the mountain
But as Ben turns back he sees his wolf...
Someone has hurt him badly
Benny turns and sniffs the air
Someone is near, he's lethal I fear
"Shoot me, they'll track you to the ends of the Earth"
A shot rings out a figure falls,
And you'll never guess ... it's Gerard!
He isn't dead so they lock him up.
The shot came from an Indian
Benny's friend faithful to tbe end,
May God bless all who seek him!
- RCMP Hold Me Close
By Sharon Elton
Royal Canadian Mounted Police
I need you to love me, you give me no peace.
I had a dram and in it I saw,
A Mountie, so handsome, upholding the Law.
He was so young, sensitive and strong.
Just like the one I've craved for so long.
I walked straight to him and into his arms.
He had no misgivings, just honesty and charm.
Every time I see him, there flutters in my heart,
The love and the passion that's been there from
the start.
My friendly acquaintance, the love of my life,
Hold me even closer, make me your wife.
Please warm me up every time I am cold,
Be there to guard me until I am old.
You are my Prince Charming, I want to be,
Your Princess Annabell, will you dance with me?
- Victoria
by Melissa Culley
She came,
Looking for a past life,
A memory so vivid and replayed.
She saw,
A man so desperate,
Such an empty cup,
Awaiting fulfillment.
She conquered,
A heart,
A soul,
A mind,
An unconditional offering,
Of love,
To be betrayed.
An eternal enigma of,
False hopes and dreams,
A killer of mental ideals.
When she looks from afar,
Observing, regretting,
We know, there is no secret.
- The Riddle of Benton Fraser
by Louise de Souza
Who is this man who stands before us,
Proud upon the knoll?
A beast of values strong and just,
And courage for us all.
Who is this man who stands before us,
Alone amid the throng?
A vulnerable heap of unknown feelings,
Repressed for all too long.
- Mountie in Red
By Roseanna Morgan
Mountie in Red,
Better to be seen than be dead,
Your trusty wolf Dief by your side,
The feelings you have you always hide.
Mountie in Red,
Looking out for your friend Ray,
Does he ever have something to say!
You let go of the only woman you loved,
How brave you must be.
Being shot by Ray,
Do you ever forget about it?
You are still friends,
You never tell him how you were,
Behind the wheel.
Mountie in Red,
My hero!
- Benny
By Alison Langfeld.
I love your coats that are red,
And the hats upon your head,
I love the boots that you wear,
And your shiny, dark hair.
Your partner Ray is cute too,
But at the end of the day I choose you,
You may not have great sense of style,
But I just can't resist your charming smile.
You could track bad guys all over town,
And always you will track them down,
With your trusty wolf at your side.
In your uniform you take pride.
There's a certain sparkle in your eyes,
That's the different from all the other guys
Ray says you've tasted mud,
One time too many,
But I still love you, Benny!
- DUE SOUTH NURSERY RHYMES
So Sing a Song of Sixpence
Round and round Chicago,
Benny drove Ray's car.
He got lost,
So Ray was cross,
And no-one got very far.
Sing a song of Benny,
And don't forget our Ray,
Not to mention Deaf wolves,
Who know just what to say.
Put them in Chicago,
Give them crimes to fight,
A Mountie and a streetwise cop,
Make an unusual sight.
Add a Riviera,
Ray's own pride and joy,
But don't let anyone touch it,
Cos it's not a toy.
Mix these things together,
Then taste them in your mouth,
There's no mistaking this mixture,
It's our very own Due South.

- THE THIEF
By Tina Moore.
Benton Fraser is a thief,
Why? I hear you all cry.
Well, he stole my heart,
I say with a sigh.
He's single so it may seem,
Oh, Benton, the man of my dreams,
How I wish I was Diefenbaker,
The centre of Benny's attention.
If only I was Dief,
The object of his affections.
He would cuddle me, talk to me,
Put his hand on my head.
I could snuggle up to him,
and lay upon his bed.
So now you see,
Benton Fraser is a thief.
It's true. He stole my heart.
It could happen to you.
- SLED DOGS
By Ian Howard (age 10)
My huskies were getting anxious,
And wanted to start the race,
As I shouted Hike! they started to get their pace.
The man got up and bellowed START!
Oh! My huskies they did dart.
We sped past the trees, the sled made a swoosh.
It all went by in a speedy whoosh.
It started to get windy,
I had to shade my eyes.
Suddenly an ice block came in view,
You should have seen the size!
With a AGee! and a AHaw! we began to swerve,
The dogs missed the block in a tight curve.
We raced on >til dusk, the end was in sight.
We had to get there before it was night.
The lights of the town were just ahead.
My dogs and I were ready for bed.
The cold wind in my face made me frown,
Then I heard a cheering from the town
We just had to cross the finishing line,
And the prize would be mine!
My huskies howled, we were the best,
We won the race, now we can rest.
- The Kiss by Ruth Wood
Mountie in the distance,
With Thatcher in view,
Swiftly covering ground,
Heart racing out of control.
Nothing in his way,
Except the odd crime to halt time.
Both wearing red serge,
Looking pristine and sexy,
Drawing closer together,
Almost merging into one.
Finally making contact,
One that should never fade away.
- Yesterday upon the stair,
I met an actor who wasn't there.
He wasn't there again today,
I hope tomorrow, he'll come and play.
